Samuel Jack
Based on the 1851 Census, and his death registration, Samuel was born in Derry, Ireland about 1826, the son of William and Margaret Jack. At some time during the eighteen forties, Samuel moved to Scotland where he worked initially as a labourer in Boharm. (Many Irish came over to Scotland following the Potato Famine in the 1840s)
He married Ann Grant from Rothes in 1851 and lived there with his wife and five year old step daughter, Jane McPherson.
Their children, Ann and William were born in Rothes in 1852 and '54.
The family moved to 29 North College Street, Elgin, where Samuel worked as a cooper and where sons, James and Alexander, were born.

Death
On 1 February 1875, Samuel died of liver and kidney disease, aged just 49. James Jack, his son was living with him at 21 Berryhill Row, Cambusnethan (Wishaw) when he died.
