Maria Beer
Maria was born in Chardstock village about 1837, the daughter of John Beer, an agricultural labourer, and Sarah Jeffrey. In 1861 Maria was living at Drakes Farm, Musbury, where she was working as a house maid. When Maria was 24 she married George Trim in the Parish Church of Musbury. At this time George was living with his parents in Musbury and working as an agricultural labourer.
Together they had eight children. By 1881 they had moved to Dalwood where they were living in a cottage and farming 7 acres. Ten years later they had moved to the Carpenters Arms, Dalwood. George died in 1900 at the age of 61
Maria was widowed in 1900, and moved to Burrow, Dalwood where in 1901, she was descibed as a 63 year old farmer of 7 acres, living with her children Maria and Edward. In the summer of 1904, Maria's daughter married Louis Partridge from Shute and the couple made their home at Burrow. Maria spent her last years as an invalid, being cared for by her daughter and son-in-law, in the company of her grand-daughter, Lena Maria. Maria died in the Spring of 1912 aged 75.
